Insight into our production

OUR MANUFACTURING PROCESS

Our rarities of wallpaper art have fascinated many design enthusiasts for over 50 years. Our wallpapers are both replicas of historical patterns and new interpretations or designs. You are welcome to convince yourself by browsing through our product range. Our collection includes over 700 wallpapers and borders. They are produced with the best materials, such as high-quality fissile paper and colour-intensive, lightfast artist colours. Colour by colour is then printed on top of each other on hand-painted ground. Our “band screen printing” machine was designed by the legendary aircraft manufacturer Willy Messerschnitt and is the only working machine of its kind. Our aim is to combine traditional craftsmanship with modern zeitgeist.

OUR PRINTING PROCESS

In 6 steps to the finished wallpaper

Herstellung

First of all, the pattern must be designed. For this purpose, either found objects, which are reconstructed true to the original, or own ideas serve as a model. The artful coordination of the individual colours and patterns requires true attention to detail and a lot of time. Afterwards the basic tone of the wallpaper is painted by hand.

1. The basics

Herstellung

In a special process we then create a separate screen plate for each colour of the pattern. Depending on its complexity, a wallpaper pattern can contain from 2 to about 36 colours, which are then applied individually by hand printing. In our example, the wallpaper has 3 colours including the basic tone.

2. Preparation of the sieve plates

Herstellung

Now the actual printing can begin. The wallpaper is pulled through by our machine and printed meter by meter. For a colour print, the wallpaper must run over the belt twice. The wallpaper must be constantly checked and readjusted by hand.

3. First print

When printing with a lot of ink, the wallpaper is then gently dried to get the best result.

The first print is finished and the wallpaper could already be on the wall but the second print will be in black.

5. Finished wallpaper with a print

After the application of the second colour the wallpaper gets its expressiveness. Sometimes it does not need many colours to produce an exclusive wallpaper.
